Did you know that here in Reno we've been subjected to an average of TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY political commericals per day, just on the Local Channels?
Reno is one of the Top Five markets for insane political commercials this year. So we were very happy to see this NO CAMPAIGNING sign outside of our local polling place. |

If you have a secret town, you might ought consider not putting a sign on the I-80 that says "Secret Town." Just an idea.

Early transient shelter was taken in dugouts and tents. Some of these were called hotels. Boarding and rooming houses sprang up with population. this is the first edifice known to Nevada to be worthy the name of Hotel.

Truckee Meadows

Where are the Truckee Meadows? South of the Truckee River -- the southeast part of what we call Reno today. A pleasant place, especially if you had just hauled wagon and beast over a thousand miles of desert. The water was good and plentiful. The route over the Sierra Nevada was the best one unless you wanted to go down through the Mojave. (Sometimes people did not do so well through that pass, like the idiot Donner Party.) To the south is the earliest Nevada settlements (by the White Man). And straight down this low mountain range is Virginia City, home of the Comstock and the former "Richest Place On Earth."

Oldest bar in Nevada ...

Here's the old Old Crow sign on the wall of the Genoa Bar, the oldest "thirst parlor" in all of Nevada ... it has been serving booze since 1853. You can bring your dog and drink on the wooden plank porch.
From the Genoa Bar's Web site: "Musicians seem to gravitate here. I've welcomed Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Slim Pickens, John Denver, and the Captain and Tennille to name just a few." Captain & Tennille?! |
